Exploring the issue of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) in Northern Ireland’s Construction Sector

Join the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) for an event run in partnership with the Equality Commission of Northern Ireland (ECNI) and the Construction Industry Training Board Northern Ireland (CITB NI) to explore the issue of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) in Northern Ireland’s construction sector. Members of a distinguished panel of speakers will share their own EDI stories from the sector and offer firms advice on how to begin their own EDI journey.

The 2022 CIOB Northern Ireland Election Manifesto recommends that the next Northern Ireland Assembly introduce measures to facilitate employers to sign-up to sector-led Equality Diversity and Inclusion Charters. This event will outline the importance of EDI in the sector, share best practice, and allow businesses to sign up to the CIOB EDI Charter.

Aims of the event

• To promote the CIOB Charter on EDI and supporting actions

• To promote emerging EDI good practice in the Northern Ireland construction sector workplace

• To offer attendees appropriate resources to begin their EDI journey

• To begin a 2022/2023 partnership between CIOB, ECNI, and CITB NI

Agenda

The evening will be compared by CIOB Trustee Noel McKee who will also share his experience of recently winning UK Women in Construction Male Ally of the Year Award at the Design and Build UK Women in Construction Awards, London

• Welcome by Caroline Gumble, CEO, CIOB, and Geraldine McGahey OBE, Chief Commissioner ECNI

• An overview of the CIOB’s EDI Charter, Mark Harrison, Head of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Transformation, CIOB

• Practical actions employers can take to promote EDI and meet the CIOB Charter commitments, ECNI

• EDI experiences in the sector presented by Hollie Creggan, Head of Equality, Diversity & FIR, Grahams Construction

• Lynn Carvill, CEO, ‘Not Just for Boys’

• Resourcing available for companies in Northern Ireland to start their EDI journey and upskill leadership workforce, Barry Neilson, Chief Executive, CITB NI
